HotSpot Shield for iPhone DOES Work

I’ve been messing around today and last night, and managed to get Hotspot Shield to work again on my iPhone and iPad.

For some reason a little while back, they stopped supporting the iPhone and iPad.. but I decided last night to try and re-enter the initial settings they gave me, back when they had the iPhone page.. and sure enough it worked.

I can’t promise that it’ll work for you, but it worked on both of my devices, and also on some of my friends devices today.

Heres the instructions to get HotSpot Shield working on your iPhone, so you can have a free VPN for your device, and access sites like Netflix USA and Pandora, while in Canada.

First open settings on your iDevice now go to general> network> VPN> add VPN then type the details EXACTLY as shown below.

I’ve set up the VPN on my iPhone, now do I need to activate it when I open up Safari?  Or is it automatically running?  How do I watch USA Netflix on the iPhone or iPad?  Thanks for your help in this.

on your iPhone you set up the VPN use the directions I provided.. then go into the settings app, and you will see a VPN “on/off” button.. turn it on and THEN open up netflix app… you don’t do any of it through safari.. you need the netflix app.. and I”m assuming you have a netflix canada account.. to watch netflix usa… once the vpn is turned on, when you open the netflix app, it reads your IP as USA, and you will automatically be in the netflix usa section..

Chris, thx buddy for the info. I got it working on my iPhone 4 but I’m just wondering why I can’t use AirPlay to send it to my appletv. The option doesn’t appear when I watch Netflix. Weird. Any ideas?

Hi Chris, is there a program for IMAC which is “free” to watch Netflix uSA from vpn? I tried hotspot shield but looks like Netflix has caught on doesn’t seem to work as posted on iphoneforcanada, plus you cannot configure hotspot shield like you can on your iPhone. Ive seen hide my ass program , but like i want to spend another $7 per month for already $7 for netflix with non HD programming .

        thanks in advance

Hey Brent… Turn on VPN, then open the NETFLIX APP… for the first time you might have to sign in again… after that it will automatically pull up all US content!

Got the VPN working, however I can only stay connected for a few minutes before the connection drops. My wifi doesn’t drop out, only the VPN. Using this on an iPad 2. Any ideas to how to maintain a connection? Bandwidth isn’t an issue as I have a 25mbps connection. Thanks.

Does the VPN choose wifi when it is on?
if you are on the VPN and on the 3G network, is there data traffic going over the VPN while the phone is idle?

Hey is this 100 percent free? Also why does it count the time when you are connected?

    Hi,
Is that VPN account still active? Try to connect getting ‘ user authentication failed’

    • Chris Burke January 19, 2012 at 8:43 pm #

Yes it still works.. Sometimes you need to try 2 or 3 times, but I just connected no problem

Thanks it works on my ipod touch :) I’ve been using hotspot shield on my pc , it does connect for a while but then it stops and would then give an error saying there’s a problem with the network connection.

Thanks again for the Ipod tips.

yea, it does time out after a period of time.. my iPhone and iPad are both jailbroken, so with sbsettings, I can reactivate the VPN while I’m in netflix.. but the movie should still play, even after it disconnects.. as long as you started the movie with the vpn running
