I was contacted last week by the gang at “DirtyWork” and asked if I could do review for one of their clients, “Fellowship Creative” from “Fellowship Church” and the release of their new CD “Always Been About You”. The CD was released on February 12, so I’m a little bit late on my review.. sorry, it’s been a really busy couple of weeks with church, and travelling. To make up for my slackness, I’m giving away TWO copies of this album. thats right folks.. my slackness is your gain! Find out how you can win at the bottom of this post!

My boys, Seth (4) and Micah (2) happened to be with me at the office the first time I listened to the CD, and because I tend to lead in “multi-generational” churches, I like to watch my boys and see how they are reacting when I’m trying out new music. When the very first track “Always Been About You” started playing, Seth looked at me, and smiled, and started jumping around and then came over to my chair and said “daddy, we need to have a dance party”. For me, that is always a good sign for a new song; if Seth wants to have a dance party, it’s a good song! So we started dancing around my office like crazy fools! When the song was over, he told me how much he like the song, and asked me if we could listen to it again!

It’s no secret that I love Twitter.. I’ve been a member since February 25, 2008, and to date have sent 24,728 tweets, which if you do your math, works out to about 15 tweets a day since I started “tweeting”. If you’re wondering why I use Twitter, you can read about that here.

Twitter has many upsides, but it also has downsides. I want to write about those today. The main downside to Twitter is because it is such a short sentence, we don’t really think much about what we are writing, we just write it, and then life goes on, surely 140 characters can’t really have that big of an impact on anything right? I know that’s always been my attitude about Twitter. It was especially my attitude when I was living in Madoc, Ontario. It was a very small community, not very “with it” when it comes to technology. In fact, for a while I was the only person in our community on Twitter.

First.. This is NOT a post outlining all the issues in the Apple vs Samsung trial and the outcome.. It is my response of disgust to humans not taking responsibility when they have done something wrong.

If you’ve been following this blog, even for only a few days, you know that I’m an avid fan of Apple.. but lets get this out of the way now.. I’m not of the the sheep who just buy every product that Steve Jobs (RIP) stood in front of us and told us we needed to buy, in fact I’m still using am iPhone 4, because the 4s wasn’t a big enough upgrade for me, and my wife is using an iPhone 3g.. not even 3gs.. my MacBook is the original 2006 First generation white MacBook.. We also have a First generation MacMini.. its doesn’t even have an intel processor!! We’ve got a 3rd generation Apple TV.. but that’s because when we finally decided to get an Apple TV you couldn’t buy the 2nd generation anymore, because the 3rd generation had just come out.. people were selling their used 2nd generation for MORE than the 3rd gen, because you could jailbreak the 2nd gen, and that actually makes them more valuable then a brand new one.. My iPad is an iPad 2.. and I didn’t feel a desire to go out and replace it with “The New iPad” when that one came out…

If you are taking part in our pageflip cicada contest, please take the time to read this

As we continue our look at using iOS devices in worship, today I want to talk about a very practical app that I found about 2 years ago, that has really helped me!

You read the title right.. today I’m talking about SongSuggest, no, it’s not a typo, I didn’t mean to write SongSelect.

SongSuggest is one of those apps that I think a lot of worship leaders use, they just don’t like to admit they use, because they want people to think that they planned that awesome worship set! SongSuggest is an app that allows you to pick a theme, and there is a long list of themes, and then it will give you a list of songs that go with that theme. You can pick songs by tempo if you want. Say you’re doing a theme on Grace, and you’ve got 6 perfect songs, but you really need 1 more to complete the setlist, and you need a slower song, but you just can’t think of one. All you do is open SongSuggest, pick “grace” and then pick “slow” and boom, instantly piles of song suggestions come up. You even have the choice to hear the song.. it’ll give you a youtube link, an iTunes download link, or many other music store links!

Hey everyone.. I just wanted to post a quick message about the pageflip contest. Rafflecopter is a pretty good contest widget.. but it does have some draw backs.. one of those draw backs being.. some of the methods of entering the contest, don’t actually get checked.. all you have to do is click “do it” and it gives you a point.. 1 example of this is the “add another comment” option. Unfortunately in order to make the regular comment button work with every new post, I would have to make a new widget for every post, and sadly, the entries don’t carry from widget to widget, so the “add another comment” was really the only way I could have people get a point for commenting on the additional posts.

As we continue our look at using iOS devices in worship, today I want to discuss a way I’ve started using my iPhone along side our worship time at Madoc Baptist.

I have to give credit where credit is due, because I got this idea from Rob Rash and a post he wrote back in August called “Creating Ambience with an MP3 Player”

Something I’ve always liked in bigger worship bands, is the use of synths. While having a piano or keyboard player, a lot of them also have someone on synths, creating some really cool sounds. One of my keyboard players bought herself a microkorg a while back, but hasn’t brought it out.. as she doesn’t feel confident with it, even though shes a fantastic player. Then one day, I was reading through my Feed Reader, and I found the post by Rob, about creating the same ambience I wanted my keyboard player to create, but by using an MP3 player.
