Archives For Contest

I was contacted last week by the gang at “DirtyWork” and asked if I could do review for one of their clients, “Fellowship Creative” from “Fellowship Church” and the release of their new CD “Always Been About You”. The CD was released on February 12, so I’m a little bit late on my review.. sorry, it’s been a really busy couple of weeks with church, and travelling. To make up for my slackness, I’m giving away TWO copies of this album. thats right folks.. my slackness is your gain! Find out how you can win at the bottom of this post!

My boys, Seth (4) and Micah (2) happened to be with me at the office the first time I listened to the CD, and because I tend to lead in “multi-generational” churches, I like to watch my boys and see how they are reacting when I’m trying out new music. When the very first track “Always Been About You” started playing, Seth looked at me, and smiled, and started jumping around and then came over to my chair and said “daddy, we need to have a dance party”. For me, that is always a good sign for a new song; if Seth wants to have a dance party, it’s a good song! So we started dancing around my office like crazy fools! When the song was over, he told me how much he like the song, and asked me if we could listen to it again!

About 2 weeks after my iOS Devices in Worship series, I got an email from the guys over at AirTurn, because I was writing about the PageTurn, and even gave away a PageTurn as a part of the series.. well they really wanted me to try out the airturn, so they sent me one.. which arrived this week. They also want me to give one away here on the blog.. I told them that if I liked it, I’d run a contest for sure.

I can’t say whether I like it or not yet, as I haven’t used it in a live setting.. I’ll be putting it through its test this weekend on Saturday and Sunday.. but, at a first glance, I have a feeling I will be running the contest for them.

Today I want to look at a very obvious, but very practical application for use in worship.

I don’t know about you, but I know that, as embarrassing as it is to admit, I sometimes arrive at church without my bible. My Sunday mornings are so hectic, and there is so much to load into my car, that its very easy to forget things, in fact, I’ve even had times when I’ve forgotten my guitar, and had to go back home after arriving at church.

When I got my first iPhone, I can honestly say one of the first applications I searched for, was a good bible. At that time, there really weren’t any good ones. There were great concepts, but they didn’t execute very well. If it was an NIV bible, you had to be online to view it (due to copyright issues).. and with our church meetig in a highschool gym, data connection was always an issue. Bibles that worked “offline” were never the translations I wanted.. it was usually a paraphrase, which, when sharing the word with a congregation, I don’t think a paraphrase is the way to do it.

If you are taking part in our pageflip cicada contest, please take the time to read this

As we continue our look at using iOS devices in worship, today I want to talk about a very practical app that I found about 2 years ago, that has really helped me!

You read the title right.. today I’m talking about SongSuggest, no, it’s not a typo, I didn’t mean to write SongSelect.

SongSuggest is one of those apps that I think a lot of worship leaders use, they just don’t like to admit they use, because they want people to think that they planned that awesome worship set! SongSuggest is an app that allows you to pick a theme, and there is a long list of themes, and then it will give you a list of songs that go with that theme. You can pick songs by tempo if you want. Say you’re doing a theme on Grace, and you’ve got 6 perfect songs, but you really need 1 more to complete the setlist, and you need a slower song, but you just can’t think of one. All you do is open SongSuggest, pick “grace” and then pick “slow” and boom, instantly piles of song suggestions come up. You even have the choice to hear the song.. it’ll give you a youtube link, an iTunes download link, or many other music store links!

Hey everyone.. I just wanted to post a quick message about the pageflip contest. Rafflecopter is a pretty good contest widget.. but it does have some draw backs.. one of those draw backs being.. some of the methods of entering the contest, don’t actually get checked.. all you have to do is click “do it” and it gives you a point.. 1 example of this is the “add another comment” option. Unfortunately in order to make the regular comment button work with every new post, I would have to make a new widget for every post, and sadly, the entries don’t carry from widget to widget, so the “add another comment” was really the only way I could have people get a point for commenting on the additional posts.
