Archives For Faith

I haven’t done an album review in quite a while, and it’s not because I haven’t received any from Integrity music, and its not because the ones I’ve gotten haven’t been worth review.. When your Internet is provided through a tin can and a string, you try to stay off the Internet unless necessary! I listened to an album last night that I had to share with you, but it’s not one that comes from Integrity music.. It’s one I just happened on when I was making a playlist on Spotify (don’t ask.. Still have no idea how I was able to get back on Spotify)

The album, as pictured above, is called “Love Divine The Songs of Charles Wesley for Today’s Generation“. It is a compilation album where popular “modern” artists such as Brenton Brown, Tim Hughes, Kim Walker and Jason Roy (to name a few) have taken some of the popular hymns of Charles Wesley and arranged them in a way to make them more modern, and more appealing to todays generation. The Burke Family Update

August 19, 2012 — 1 Comment

A lot of people have been asking for a ministry and family update lately, and a lot of new developments have happened in the last week or so.. We just had a few people we had to talk to before we made them public.

Health wise, my back is getting worse. I just had an MRI a few weeks ago, and I have 2 compressed disks in my back again, which means I need surgery again.. It’s the same disks that were compressed last year. I haven’t talked with the surgeon yet, so I don’t know what he is going to do, but I assume it’s going to be a more intense surgery than the one he did last year.

Since July I’ve been in bed, because being up on my feet hurts a lot. The disks that are compressed surround my sciatic nerve, which means my left leg is in constant pain. With the upcoming surgery, I will be in bed after surgery for a minimum of 3 months post surgery, so I’ve put my job search on hold for the time being, because it’s unfair to accept a job, then take 3 months off. So I’m in the process of applying for CPP Disability.

Micah, swinging at the beach at MBC

This week I’ve had the opportunity to lead worship at Muskoka Bible Centres family camp. This is my first time at MBC. I’ve led worship at a few camps before, and I can honestly say, as a worship leader, MBC is an awesome place! They truly know how to take care of their guests! Everything from providing first class meals, to giving me a golf cart, because I have a hard time walking due to my back issues.. This really is a first class camp! It’s been a great place for my family as well. Lots of stuff for my kids to do, and I get to spend some time with my wife! Continue Reading…

Today I want to look at a very obvious, but very practical application for use in worship.

I don’t know about you, but I know that, as embarrassing as it is to admit, I sometimes arrive at church without my bible. My Sunday mornings are so hectic, and there is so much to load into my car, that its very easy to forget things, in fact, I’ve even had times when I’ve forgotten my guitar, and had to go back home after arriving at church.

When I got my first iPhone, I can honestly say one of the first applications I searched for, was a good bible. At that time, there really weren’t any good ones. There were great concepts, but they didn’t execute very well. If it was an NIV bible, you had to be online to view it (due to copyright issues).. and with our church meetig in a highschool gym, data connection was always an issue. Bibles that worked “offline” were never the translations I wanted.. it was usually a paraphrase, which, when sharing the word with a congregation, I don’t think a paraphrase is the way to do it.

If you follow me on Twitter, or are friends with me on FaceBook, no doubt you’ve noticed a lack of posts by me over the last 36 hours. Here’s why!

For the last year or so, I’ve felt at different times that God might want me to do a fast.. but not a “ditch the food” fast, instead a tech fast. I’ve never really heard a booming voice telling me to, but at times, I’ve just had a feeling that it would be healthy for me to get off of facebook and or twitter for a little while. On Tuesday night, I was laying in bed, around 11pm watching a movie, and chatting with people over twitter, and it dawned on me “Lent starts in a hour”.. and out of no where, thought that if there was a good time to give up facebook and twitter, now would be a really good time to do that.

I’ve been playing Paul Baloche’s music since I started playing lead guitar as a teen in a worship team back in 1998, though at that time, to be honest, it wasn’t really my thing.. though, worship music in general wasn’t my thing at 14 years old.

Fast forward to July 2010. Integrity Music sent me a early copy of Paul’s “Glorious” CD, which was later released in September. This CD gave me a whole new respect for Paul. He made an amazing CD in glorious, and I know that a LOT of churches picked up a number of songs from that CD and added them to their regular set lists.

Lets fast forward again to Monday, February 13, 2012 (just 2 days ago).. I get an email from my friends at Integrity Music.. guess what it is.. another early release of Paul Baloche (and about 4 other CD’s too.. but Paul’s was the one I was excited about!!)
