Archives For Twitter

It’s no secret that I love Twitter.. I’ve been a member since February 25, 2008, and to date have sent 24,728 tweets, which if you do your math, works out to about 15 tweets a day since I started “tweeting”. If you’re wondering why I use Twitter, you can read about that here.

Twitter has many upsides, but it also has downsides. I want to write about those today. The main downside to Twitter is because it is such a short sentence, we don’t really think much about what we are writing, we just write it, and then life goes on, surely 140 characters can’t really have that big of an impact on anything right? I know that’s always been my attitude about Twitter. It was especially my attitude when I was living in Madoc, Ontario. It was a very small community, not very “with it” when it comes to technology. In fact, for a while I was the only person in our community on Twitter.

I’ve been beta testing Proclaim for the past 2 or 3 months in our church, and I truly believe it is going to become the next ProPresenter. It takes all the amazing aspects of ProPresenter, but theres one catch which is awesome… it’s all “in the cloud”.. what this means is, you can give the login information to your tech guy, your worship leader, your pastor, your service leader.. anyone who would have content that they want put on the screen during a service.. they log in, add what they have to add, and then when your tech guy logs in on Sunday morning or whenever he usually preps for the service, BOOM it’s all there.. everything.. no questions asked.. put it in order, and your done.. it’s so easy. No longer will your pastor show up 10 minutes before the service with a power point presentation(do people still use that?) with the slides from his sermon.. no longer will the worship leader say “oh we decided to add THIS song”.. ok chances are he will.. but hopefully he already loaded it to the cloud.. this software truly is amazing.. and as a way of promoting Proclaim, they are giving away $25,000 in prizes. Read the info below on how to enter (it’s super easy) and do it!

The Giant Music Giveaway

February 11, 2011 — 8 Comments

For the past year or so I’ve been a “reviewer” of sorts, for Integrity Music.. simply what it means is, Integrity Music sends me music before it’s released, I listen, and usually write a post here on chrisburke.ca to share my thoughts on the CD/DVD or whatever product it is that they send me.

As a result of that, I have a LOT of CD’s kicking around my office.. a LOT.. and since next month I’m moving to a new office space, I decided that it would be a great time to try and get rid of any of the unnecessary stuff kickin it around my office.. most of that being music, and lets face it.. who uses CD’s anymore? I get a CD import it into iTunes, then never look at the physical CD again..

I sent a tweet yesterday morning that really seemed to cause a stink on twitter and facebook. For those who didn’t read it, it was: “We must separate the Jesus of the Gospel from the people of the church, because the people will always let you down, Jesus never will” some people completely agreed with me, while others didn’t agree, so I’m going to try to explain it in this blog post (as I told them I would) which would then hopefully cause them to understand where/what I was coming from.

First of all, I cannot take credit for this quote, my friend and chaplain to our staff Bob Scrivens said this yesterday at our staff meeting. Bob is an amazing man. He’s easily in his 70′s maybe even more.. and is a retired counsellor/pastor/amazing man. He carries a lot of wisdom, and believes 100% in what we do at Youth Unlimited, so much so that he tries to mention our ministry in nearly every conversation he has.

Is Social Media a Waste of Time

September 29, 2010 — 1 Comment

I Have no problem admitting that the cartoon to the left is far to much a reality in my house. Am I proud of it? No.. it’s just what this crap can do to us.

Lately I’ve been engaging in a few conversations with some people (mostly through twitter… ironic..) about cellphones.. and whether they are a need or a want. I came to the conclusion that for me, a cellphone is a NEED, because I don’t have a office phone.. however, I also decided that the iPhone 4 was a want (and its predecessors). In fact this coming Sunday I’m going to be addressing marketing in a sermon, and utilizing the Droid commercials, and how they, instead of focusing on the qualities of their phones, focus on the things the iPhone doesn’t do. Cellphones really can no longer be called cellphones.. which is why they now have titles like “smart phones” and yet, we don’t need all the crap that they can do. Yes, it is very convient that my iPhone can do all the things it does, in fact, I think I use the camera on my phone more than I do the phone itself.. I mean it shoots in 720p HD for crying out loud.. and it’s a cellphone..

So I noticed tonight that I’m sitting around 9,000 tweets… and with the amount I use twitter, I will likely be hitting 10,000 sometime this week (kidding, but it will be within the month I’m sure).

In a lame attempt to “celebrate” my lameness, because I tweet everything, I thought we would do a little contest..

To enter the contest all you have to do is either comment on this post about how much you love (or hate) social media, or follow me on twitter (@chriswtburke) and send out a tweet saying “I want to win the super lame 10,000 tweet giveaway with @chriswtburke http://chrisburke.ca/?p=1454″ and you will be entered. As a note, you can enter more than twice with multiple tweets or comments..
