I was contacted last week by the gang at “DirtyWork” and asked if I could do review for one of their clients, “Fellowship Creative” from “Fellowship Church” and the release of their new CD “Always Been About You”. The CD was released on February 12, so I’m a little bit late on my review.. sorry, it’s been a really busy couple of weeks with church, and travelling. To make up for my slackness, I’m giving away TWO copies of this album. thats right folks.. my slackness is your gain! Find out how you can win at the bottom of this post!

My boys, Seth (4) and Micah (2) happened to be with me at the office the first time I listened to the CD, and because I tend to lead in “multi-generational” churches, I like to watch my boys and see how they are reacting when I’m trying out new music. When the very first track “Always Been About You” started playing, Seth looked at me, and smiled, and started jumping around and then came over to my chair and said “daddy, we need to have a dance party”. For me, that is always a good sign for a new song; if Seth wants to have a dance party, it’s a good song! So we started dancing around my office like crazy fools! When the song was over, he told me how much he like the song, and asked me if we could listen to it again!

The War of Worship

February 9, 2013 — Leave a comment

Worship is a war. Satan is trying to steal your worship. Are you equipped with the right tools to fight him off? In Matthew 4:1-11 Jesus shows us the tools he used to fight off Satan when he tried to steal his worship.

God wants us to come to him with the right heart. If we don’t, he’s pretty clear that he really doesn’t want us to even bother. He uses words like “hate” and “despise” in regards to how he feels about our gatherings and celebrations, when we come with the wrong motive and hearts. So be sure to come for the right reason.

Don’t Waste Your Worship Amos 5:18-27 by chriswtburke on Mixcloud

It dawned on me this week that I haven’t given you guys a family update in quite a while.. and I’ve got to say, a LOT has changed since November 6 (thats when I posted our last family update). Shame on me I guess for not keeping our friends up to date on things. Though I guess most of you have been kept up to date through phone calls and texts.. so chances are not much of what I’m going to post is going to be new to many of you.

We are certainly well settled into our new home here on “the Island” with my parents, and things have been going great. We had a fantastic Christmas with them. Christmas day was a blast, as the boys were both old enough this year to enjoy it! The looks on their faces were priceless as they opened gifts and just had a blast. We had 14 people over for Christmas dinner, which consisted of the regular turkey dinner, but also a maritime classic, jiggs dinner.. my friends in Ontario no doubt are drooling! When we first moved to Ontario, Jen and I had our whole church over to our place for jiggs dinner.. and even 7 years later people were talking about that “crazy young couple who invited the whole church into their home, even though they were a new couple in the community”. It was a great time with our family. We haven’t had a time like that in YEARS!

The Bible tells us that when we turn over our lives to God, we are made new in Him.. “the old has God, the new has come”.. so why do we continue to dwell on our past when God has cast it as far as the East is from the West?

Why Are You Doing Outreach?

December 2, 2012 — 2 Comments

What is your churches motive behind their outreach? Is it to get more butts in the pews to write cheques, or is it to change the lives of your community? This week we look at the great commission in Matthew 28 and our motives in Matthew 25.

Feel free to discuss it in the comments!
